Apologies for the quality of the photo but I thought you might like to see an alternative use for the cage that is designed to prevent squirrels stealing all of the bird seed from one of our garden feeders. At around 7:15 this morning a Sparrow-hawk flew in to scatter the feeding birds (and a squirrel). Well, it scattered all the feeding birds bar one as you can see one young Goldfinch decided it would be safer to remain within the bars. What the photo doesn't show is that the Goldfinch sat frozen in this position for about ten minutes as Mrs.LDNP came and fetched me and my camera and then even for several minutes after the hawk had flown away. Only when other birds returned to the feeder did the finch re-start feeding itself and then finally fly off. Apologies also for the recent paucity of postings.........thanks for still coming by!
