Peacock Butterfly

It never ceases to amaze me that these fragile things can survive the winter in this form, particularly the cold and wet one we've had this year. Yet, there seems to be abundance of Peacocks this spring, all presumably laying eggs on nettles ready for the generation to overwinter for next spring. Worryingly, I haven't yet seen any Commas who also overwinter as adult butterflies but it may just be that I haven't been out as much as usual. Canon EOS-1D Mark III
