Sticky Bud
Comments(2) # Sticky Bud london e14

Well, they're buds and they're sticky. Pretty self explanatory name for the buds of the Horse Chestnut or conker tree, isn't it? Quintessentially English though, aren't they? Well, so I thought too until digging a bit deeper. I found that actually they weren't introduced to the UK until 1616. Maybe in four hundred years time the Harlequin Ladybirds will be viewed as natives too. This little sapling was growing by the side of a busy roundabout, not, I would guess, planted by the local council's gardeners but, I like to think, dropped by a child on their way to school.
