Damselfly Wheel

So, up and down the country it would appear that the Damselflies are making the next generation. These two are Azure Damselflies and, for those interested, the female is the Green one.

The one that got away

I have many cameras and lenses and I'm sometimes asked which is the best. Obviously it depends on the situation, but ultimately I always think of what one of my teachers, a French teacher, not a photography teacher by the way, once said, "The best camera for the job is the one you have with you!". It may sound glib and unhelpful but there's also a lot of truth in it and it's one of the reasons I try to always have a camera of some description with me. Thus, last night going to see youngest daughter's final GCSE exam/performance (actually it was B.Tech Performing art so not technically a GCSE) I thought I'd just take my little G9 as it's small, and almost silent, ideal for the job. But somehow in the rush it got left on the kitchen counter so, not only did I not capture any of her final school performance but also as we started the short walk home and Mrs.LDNP spotted an enormous stag beetle walking across our path, the UK's largest beetle eluded this blog. And it was a magnificent specimen too, almost three inches long. It's the first one I've seen in London, indeed the first one I've seen since a child I think. So, sorry about this one, it got away..............
