Azure Damselflies
Comments(6) # Azure Damselflies london e17

..and not a stones throw from yesterday's Flag Iris were this pair of Azure Damselflies. The male is the blue whilst the female is green. They're either in the first stage of mating or have finished and about to start ovipositing (egglaying) amongst the pondweed. It's particularly nice to have found them at this particular pond as it completely dried up to nout but mud last year. Their presence suggests either the survival of the larvae in the mud (which is possible) or recolonisation from another pond. Either way, it's good to see the next generation being started.
