I brought you the male Common Darter a week or so ago and I'm glad to say that I've now come across several females too albeit fewer than previous years I'm sure. The females are also, I think, harder to see with their yellow colouration but even so there seems to almost be a dearth of them this year. This one was relatively recently emerged I think and it looks like she's had an accident with her wing during emergence, possibly because of the high winds we've been having. I sat watching and photographing her for a good ten minutes before she'd had enough and flew away. Probably just as well as I'd taken a good fifty shots or so by then. Canon EOS 40D
