Windswept Purple Hairstreak
Comments(0) # Windswept Purple Hairstreak london e17

This I show you for two reasons. Firstly, the Butterfly in question appeared to be flying perfectly normally despite that large section of missing wing. They really are amazing things, aren't they. Secondly, when I first showed you a full frontal of a Purple Hairstreak a few weeks ago, Gavin asked why they were so named. Well, I know the question was answered at the time but I always like to show you these things too if at all possible. The damage to the wing enables a sneak preview of the narrow band of purple that the female of the species possesses. The male has an almost totally purple upper wing. Should I ever come across one actually displaying its wings I'll bring you that too. Canon EOS 40D
