Sand Martins
Comments(3) # Sand Martins london e17

This really was a delight. Holes were been cut in concrete drainage pipes filled with soil and mounted at the Waterworks Nature Reserve to make prospective homes for Sand Martins which otherwise nest in banks or cliff faces (and we don't have many of those spare in London). Within the first year, as you can see, every drilled hole and several cracks have already been colonised by these acrobatic little birds. Watching the coming and going of planes into Heathrow is nothing after seeing the amazing numbers of birds to-ing and fro-ing through this small airspace without any air traffic control at all.
