Broad Bodied Chaser Dragonfly (2)
Comments(6) # Broad Bodied Chaser Dragonfly (2) london e17

Some Dragonflies climb up a water reed or other aquatic plant. The Broad Bodied Chaser larvae, however, often leave the pond completely. Sometimes they may journey many metres from the pond before finding a plant, stick or even a shed wall to climb. This one, as you can see, has settled on a blade of grass which isn't really a very good choice (it fell off soon after this picture was aken). Once up the chosen item the larva clasps on tightly and then its back splits open and the adult begins to emerge. Canon EOS 5D
