Great Crested Grebe feeding (again)
Comments(12) # Great Crested Grebe feeding (again) london e17

Well, the young Great Crested Grebes seem to have got over their dislike of fish (and see how much they've grown in the last two weeks..... much too large to ride on mum's back now...though they did keep on trying). Sadly there seem to be only two chicks left from this brood despite the continued close attention of both parents. Here the father was apparently giving them a fishing lesson. He'd caught this very large carp and would offer it to them but then pull it away and dive under the water with it. Sometimes one of them would follow him, sometimes not. It was, once again, fascinating to watch. Once the lesson was finished they all pecked at it but even so the fish was too large for either adult to swallow (though they did try). PS: I've managed to trim the photos from last week's brief trip to the French Alps down to 66 and put them into a slide-show for you, click here to view. Do let me know if you have problems viewing it, it's a Flash driven affair generated from Lightroom 2 Beta and if it doesn't work I would like to know. Canon EOS 40D
