A tale of three tails
Comments(2) # A tale of three tails london e17

Today we look at the changing tail of the Broad Bodied Chaser, to date the only true Dragonfly (as opposed to Damselfly) species I've seen this year. The first shot is the freshly emerged one we saw a few weeks ago, notice how the tail is a greenish yellow and partly transparent, the internal organs visible. The second shot shows a young male still in its yellow colouration (the females remain yellow) and with just a hint of transparency remaining. The third is of a fully mature male now in his proud blue adult colours and with no hint of the internal organs. And all this within the space of three weeks or so. As you may have guessed I'm back now from the French Alps where we had a wonderful time, despite quite a lot of rain. For those interested we were staying in a lovely little village called Saint.Jean D'Aulps which is just a bit down the road from Morzine. I will post a link to a gallery of some of my photos in a day or two. Canon EOS 40D
