Large Red Damselfly
Comments(3) # Large Red Damselfly london e10

So, as you all guessed, yesterday's shot was of the first of the Dragonflies (which long-suffering visitors will know are probably my favourite photographic subjects) of the year... As Chris pointed out yesterday, last year we saw the first of the Large Red Damselflies (which are usually the first Dragonflies we see around here) in mid April but this year they're perhaps a little more typically emerging in May. There were more than 30 exuvia by the allotment pond at the weekend so I hope the emerged adults were busy eating greenfly. The one pictured above was actually found by the pond in our garden but I'm not sure whether he came from it or not. Happily I've also now come across my first actual Dragonfly (ie: not a Damselfly) of the year and you'll get to see him in a day or two. Canon EOS 40D
