Great Pond Snail
Comments(4) # Great Pond Snail london e17

One of the largest of the UK's pond snails at about two inches and fascinating to watch as they move surprisingly quickly through their aquatic realm. They're closely related to land based snails and indeed can take air in from above the water surface, store the air and then "dive" to feed. In well oxygenated water they can also absorb the oxygen directly from the water. So, literally the best of both worlds for the Great Pond Snail...in the breathing stakes at least. Canon EOS 5D
