Wasp Spider (3)

So, we haven't checked up on the Wasp Spiders recently have we? Well, I'm delighted to report that they're doing very well indeed. I've counted at least twenty females in a very small patch of scrub land, far more than I've ever seen before in one location. The males are somewhat smaller and harder to spot but are also there in some numbers, we'll bring you one of those shortly. In the meantime here's a female wrapping up a fly, you can see her thread looped round one of her legs and the speed with which she had this fly completely trapped was absolutely amazing.....a matter of seconds from impact with the web to being wrapped up as an un-recognisable mummy. This shot was taekn within a couple of seconds of the fly becoming entangled. Canon EOS 5D
