Thick Legged Flower Beetle
Comments(0) # Thick Legged Flower Beetle london e17

I confess I had to hunt through many sources before I managed to get a positive identification on this one. Most merely use its Latin name, Oedemera nobilis, but there were enough that cited "Thick Legged Flower Beetle" for me to be convinced that this really was what it is called. Not very imaginative though is it? The name I mean, the beetle may be very imaginative indeed....certainly a wonderful shimmery green. This is a male, by the way, the females don't have the bulging femoral features that give this strange beast its name. They feed mainly on pollen apparently and seem to be particularly fond of yellow flowers. There's a lot of them about at the moment round here. Canon EOS 5D
